Naples to Key West: More than a Trip
The trip from Naples to Key West can be a frustrating one given the unorthodox layout of your travels. Despite Naples resting relatively north of your final destination, the trip requires over and hour drive West across the state before the route tracks down the east coast on US-1.
The New Mindset
An alternative option, one that is growing in popularity, is boating to Key West. A number of leisure ships depart from Fort Myers or Marco Island. The three-to-four hour trip provides a vacation-like feel for the voyage down to your destination. In fact, the new route makes it more manageable to take a single day trip to Key West as opposed to a full weekend away.
Key West is built around an older foundation, forcing many visitors out of cars and onto their feet or bikes. Scooter and bicycles will be available for rent upon arrival, but it can be an issue easily avoided with coordination before departure. As important, you can stock up on essentials in Key West. A number of reachable convenient stores will offer anything that may be needed for a quick trip away from home.
The island offers an array of beaches, restaurants, and other attractions to make for a filled day or two vacation. You can find a number of local businesses that are oriented around the traditional Caribbean cuisine, plus there are many that fuse the flavors with more international dishes. A vibrant nightlife offers a strong complement to family-friendly attractions during the day to ensure everyone finds something to enjoy.
Only a couple hours away with a couple of different ways to reach the Keys, Naples is close enough that Key West makes for a perfect weekend getaway.
