Key West’s MUST EATS at Each Price Range
A good meal can make an evening, and the right restaurants can make a vacation. Whether you visit Key West for a weekend or a week, there are a number of options that meet all culinary expectations.
Garbo’s Grill ($)
Garbo’s Grill is the ideal, affordable option for a picky eater or large family. The menu offers an assortment of styles ranging from classic American to local Caribbean and traditional Korean barbecue. Although it provides a number of expected recipes, the eating experience stands alone. Garbo’s is nothing more than a small food truck, but the tastes remind customers of home kitchens, beach side huts, and pop-up American diners. Impressed by the versatility? Well you can try it all. The menu consists of only six menu items: mahi mahi, beef shortrib, shrimp, ground beef burger, and deli quarter pound dogs. The base of all dishes are simple and classic, but vibrant dressing with various sauces and fresh produce provide flavor much larger than a single truck.
Santiago’s Bodega ($$)
Santiago’s Bodega is a change of pace from the typical local cuisine. At first glance it has the standard look of the Keys with outdoor seating and a beach casual look, but the menu is dressed differently. Many nearby restaurants follow the trend of Caribbean themed foods, but Santiago’s relocates with European roots. More aptly described as Spanish Mediterranean, it provides a retreat from local influence. While it’s grown to three locations throughout Florida, it maintains the charming appeal of a single location perfect for a romantic night out. The menu is certainly set for a particular taste though as it consists of soups, salads, and tapas (both hot and cold). Priced into a higher range with the average meal hovering around $30, Santiago’s Bodega is a growing favorite through South Florida for a number of reasons.
Tavern N Town ($$$)
A number of the higher end restaurants in Key West offer breathtaking views to overcome exorbitant prices on disappointing entrees. Tavern N Town maintains the status quo with an experience in atmosphere, but also provides a fine dining experience. The atmosphere suits the romantic night away, but is also welcoming for a family looking to have an enjoyable night out. Primary concerns return to the food, though, where they offer a local selection paired with decadent classics. A selection of tapas and seafood meet the Caribbean desire. Traditional options like New York Strip, Filet Mignon, and Prime Rib provide an alternative grass taste for those looking to break from the townly flavor. The prices favor a special night away, but are more than fair for the entire experience.
